Educating, Equipping and Empowering Communities about Trauma

Reconnect & Rebuild

Recovery does not occur in isolation & Informed Support from family, friends and community is crucial to helping a victim of trauma move forward and find healing.

A community that understands and speaks about trauma is a community that is supportive and encourages dialogue and communication. Such a community, and the people who form part of these communities, are people that together survive, discover healing and move towards thriving. Educated support from family, friends and neighbours can help us move forward, and make the journey to healing less arduous.

A Trauma Informed Community comprises three segments: (1) Mental Health Care Professionals who are adept at navigating the complex nature of traumatic stress. (2) Grassroots Volunteers who are aware of the importance of safety, dignity, trustworthiness and choice offered when engaging with survivors. (3) Communities who are aware of their rights and are educated about the effects of trauma, and provide a sensitive support base to survivors .
